About Implants

  • Dental implants are used to support one or more false teeth within a patient’s mouth.
  • Implants are not normally available on the NHS.
  • Implants are made of a titanium screw, which replaces the root of a tooth.  The dentist will decide if the patient’s jawbone is in good enough condition for implants to be suitable.  In some cases, grafting bone into the area is a requirement.
  • Implants are a safe and reliable treatment.
  • The life of an implant will depend on how well they are looked after, and the patient’s attendance at regular check-ups.  There are no life-time guarantees; however, if well- maintained, they can last for many years.
  • Implants, and the teeth they support, can be damaged.  Always wear a protective mouth guards when playing sports or involving contact or moving objects.
